This is “Waiting For Tomorrow,” the 12th and final release in the Wabi Sabi Series, a monthly drip of sketches, demo tracks, and short clips celebrating imperfection and impermanence.
We have reached the end of the Wabi Sabi series. It’s time to look back on the last year and reflect upon the effect it has had on our lives. Our last show was on Feb 23rd 2020 at Union Stage opening up for Black Lips and Warish. We just released our EP ‘Aeon Long Death of this Untrodden Austral World” and were going to start venturing out on the road. Quarantine hit and plans were put on hold. With all this time on our hands, we decided to write some new songs and, after a few months when things got back to normal, we would have some new tunes to play.
I wanted to write simple acoustic songs that would convey the isolation we were feeling at the time, and then rework the songs with the band once we could all be in the same room again. The idea of the circle coming back around, from being social, to being isolated, and then back to being social again. Over the months it grew into something bigger.
The idea of Wabi Sabi for the series was appealing because the idea of embracing the impermanent and imperfect seemed to fit the moment in time. Since perfection doesn’t exist, we could focus on the emotional energy and intention in the music. Let it exist in as raw and honest a form as possible.
It was probably around month 5 when we decided we would continue to release an EP a month for a full year.
So here we are. A full year later. 12 months, 12 Eps, 50+ songs… Songs about life and who we are and who we want to be. Songs that strive to make you feel something. Songs that wear their imperfections as badges of honor to remind us we fought for our scars. Let us never forget it’s our scars that make us shine.
None of this would of been possible without these incredible humans who have lent their talents and support to this project and to whom I am eternally grateful. Kenny Pirog, Andrew Labens, Gianmaria Conti, Rob Myers, Emily Rainey, Jerry Busher, Rick, Joe Herrera, Joe Lally, Darryl Burke, Federico Aubele, Liz Porter, Jeremy, Peter and everybody at Vlado Meller Mastering. Most of all, THANK YOU.
