The Hidden Identity Behind Our Former Moniker | The Sunwolf Sessions

What started as a weekly jam between friends actually got it’s inception over a decade before our first official release. Few know that Thunderpaw’s genesis can be traced back over a decade as a hidden chapter lost to time. Many of the collaborators were session players and former production crew of Thievery Corporation who lent their expertise to the sessions during a creative respite between albums and tours. In 2010, songs were sketched with no grand designs for release. Off season, some songs where performed as “The Midnight Kids.” Others languished in obscurity, lost to the shuffle of new projects.

Today marks the long-awaited unveiling of the very first collection the band ever recorded, kept under wraps until now. This treasure trove of nostalgia pays homage to the band’s previous name, “Sunwolf,” and is a rediscovery of the their roots and the essence of their unique Thunderpaw sound.

The Sunwolf Sessions EP was produced and mixed by Federico Aubele and include the vocals of LouLou Ghelichkhani of Thievery Corporation and Night Glitter on the original version of “Cherry Crush.” You can also hear Natalia Clavier of Thievery Corporation backing the psychedelic punkabilly style in “The Hunted,” the wailing heartbreak that is “Hermosilla,” and the ethereal, freak folk adventure, “The Dreamer.”

Thievery’s own Rob Garza sampled the single, releasing his own nu-disco house spin on the original this month.
